AUSTIN - Brian Lee Vera of Austin, Texas, was ordered to pay an administrative penalty of $3,500 and to obey all combative sports laws and rules of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) for a violation he received at an event on May 30, 2008 in San Antonio.

Vera was acting as a second (cornerman) at an event at the San Antonio Memorial Coliseum.  He was warned several times by a TDLR inspector to remain calm and seated as he worked his corner.  When warned the final time Vera responded by shoving and elbowing the inspector.  By striking the representative of TDLR Vera behaved in an unprofessional manner and failed to demonstrate sportsmanlike conduct, a violation of 16 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 61.

Boxing Seconds are required to be licensed by TDLR and to follow all laws and rules as set out in the Statute and Code. Vera’s actions endangered the safety and wellbeing of his boxer by possibly distracting the boxer, referee, judge or other team members.
