Welcome to the home page of the DSHS licensing program for personal emergency response system (PERS) providers. PERS (also known as emergency alarms or fall alarms) are electronic devices which allow the user to send an instant call for help in case of an emergency to monitoring centers which can dispatch appropriate assistance. PERS providers and their employees were formerly licensed along with fire and burglar alarm systems by the Texas Commission on Private Security. House Bill 28 (Third Called Session, 2003) transferred all PERS licensing and regulation responsibilities to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). This transfer became effective on February 1, 2004. Please explore all links on this page and refer back to them, as many have been updated.
