Welcome to the new home page of the DSHS Dyslexia Therapist and Practitioner Licensing Program. The 81st Texas Legislature enacted House Bill 461, relating to the regulation of dyslexia therapists and practitioners, and the bill was signed by Governor Rick Perry on June 21, 2009. Select the “Statutes/Laws” link at right to view or print a copy of House Bill 461.

Some sections of the bill become effective on September 1, 2009 and the remaining sections become effective on September 1, 2010. During the summer and fall of 2009, our implementation activities will focus on appointing and organizing the Dyslexia Licensing Advisory Committee and drafting proposed rules for the new program. View a proposed timeline for implementation of House Bill 461 by selecting “What’s New – For the Program” through the links to your left.

Licensure application forms will be distributed in late spring 2010. The bill requires that a person who uses the titles “licensed dyslexia therapist” or “licensed dyslexia practitioner” must hold a license on and after September 1, 2010.
