Action Alert

PROPOSED CHANGES IN FEDERAL OVERSIGHT OF "WATERS OF THE U.S." COULD RESULT IN ADDITIONAL BURDENS ON THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY AND THOSE WHO RELY ON IT FOR A LIVING.
The changes would effectively give the EPA and Department of Interior jurisdiction over all private lands that might be determined to be "waters of the United States."  Under the new regulation which will be considered by Interior in November, any depression, gulley, arroyo or cowpath may be determined to be "waters of the US."  That would also apply to any drainage ditch or impoundment which might be determined to be a "wetland."
YOU MUST TAKE ACTION NOW!

Please visit the comment site below and express your strong reservations about this action.  Your communication should be original, brief and to the point.  It should address any or all  these points:

•  Individual drilling and workover permits would take not just weeks, but perhaps a month or more to be approved because the Texas Railroad Commission, Department of Interior and Environmental Protection Agency will all have oversight powers.
• Additional SPCC plans will be required and result in increased reporting and require the hiring of additional personnel who do nothing other than fill out forms and file permits with multiple agencies.
• There will be potential conflicts between state and federal agencies in jurisdictional disputes.
• Many well sites in the Texas Panhandle are located in areas that will be determined to be at risk even though they are not directly adjacent to flowing water.
• The new regulations will sharply curtail exploration and production activities, directly impacting the welfare of the men and women who work for the companies, their families and their communities.
•  The proposed changes would have little or no impact on improving water quality.
•  Parties who have no real stake in the petroleum industry could file claims, resulting in lengthy legal battles

Make it personal - include personal observations about how your job may be affected and the impact that would have on your family and your community.
