GUIDE TO COMMON LEAVE TYPES

This on-line practical guide is meant to provide simplified explanations and guidelines to state employers in order to assist them in better managing certain leave types. This guide is not meant to substitute for a policy manual nor is it intended to alter the at-will status of any employee in any way.

The State Auditor’s Office has strived to provide an accurate collection of laws related to a selection of common leave types. However, due to the complex and changing nature of the subject matter, the guide may contain some errors or omissions. The specific language contained in the statutes, regulations, and other source documents takes precedence over the content of the guide. Readers should consult the original source for further explanations and information and with the legal counsel within their agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

This guide does not include all information that may apply to specific agencies or institutions of higher education because of the flexibility they may have with some federal and state laws. A copy of the entire guide is available for printing, or copies of each section can be found below.
