State Auditor's Office Accessibility Policy

The State Auditor's Office (SAO) is committed to making its web sites accessible to all users. The SAO web site at large complies with Conformance Level A (Priority 1) of the World Wide web Consortium accessibility rating. We are currently working to bring our site to Conformance Level Double-A (Priority 2). In addition, we are currently working to bring the SAO site into conformance with the HTML 4.01 specification as validated by the W3C.

The SAO web site includes the following features designed to improve accessibility for users with disabilities:

• Images on the site contain "alt tags", which contain descriptions of the images to aid users who listen to the content of the site by using a screen reader. Text transcripts accompany video or audio clips of speeches, remarks, and the like.
  
  
• "Skip Navigation" links at the top of each page enable users to bypass the navigation bar and go directly to the main content each time a page is accessed.
  
  
• The site's style sheets are designed to allow users to resize the text of the site in browsers that support this feature (generally available under the View menu).
  
  
• Publications on the SAO site are generally available in HTML. Audit reports and other documents are published using Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). All links to PDF files are accompanied by links to copies of those files by simple conversion to HTML, and our standard footer contains a link to our "File Types and Readers" page from which Adobe Reader may be downloaded. For our reports, we post a "Key Points" document in HTML that contains a link to the report's PDF file as well as a second link to an HTML copy of the PDF document created by simple conversion to html.
  
  
• We test major redesigns with a number of browsers, screen readers, accessibility and HTML validators, and other web tools. The results of such reviews are incorporated into improvements for the website.
