Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is my representative; where can I find information about the legislative district that I live in?
A: Representatives, senators, and members of congress can be found in Who Represents Me? Enter your address and the member's contact information will display.

Q: Where can I find electronic map files; where do I find historical election data?
A: Electronic map files are provided as ArcView shapefiles of districts (.shp), as ArcInfo coverages (.e00), and as files relating blocks or zip codes to districts (.csv). A shapefile stores attribute information for the spatial features in a data set. Data in .e00 is an ArcInfo interchange file format, which is a simple ASCII file that can be opened and viewed using any common text editor. Electronic map files can be downloaded from our redistricting FTP site. Map files are located in the GIS folder, and election data are located in the PAR folder.

Q: Where can I find a more detailed map of my district?
A: DistrictViewer provides the ability to view maps interactively. The further you zoom in, the more map features you see.

Q: Where can I find State District Courts or Courts of Appeals maps?
A: Printable maps for State District Courts and Courts of Appeals can be found on the Judicial page of this website.

Q: Where can I find historical maps of Texas congressional districts?
A: Printable historical maps for Texas congressional districts from 1846 to 2006 can be found on the U.S. Congress page of this website.

Q: Where can I find historical maps of the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate?
A: These are under development and should be published sometime in Spring 2009.
