Features

  • Revised Final Regulations Under the Family and Medical Leave Act : The revised final regulations under the Family and Medical Leave Act become effective on January 16, 2009. The revised regulations include new notice requirements and new and revised forms.
  • Recent Changes in the Americans with Disabilities Act:: On September 25, 2008, President Bush signed into law S. 3406, the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, which clarifies and broadens the definition of disability and expands the population eligible for protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
  • Promises with a Price: This report, published by the Pew Charitable Trusts, provides first-of-its-kind data about the long-term costs of public sector benefits.
  • Increase in Federal Minimum Wage: The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) was amended June 25 and increases the federal minimum wage in three steps: to $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007; to $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008; and to $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009.

  • elaws: These web-based, interactive tools created by the Department of Labor provide easy-to-understand, tailored information about a number of federal employment laws and safety and health standards.
  • The Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act: Effective March 10, 2005, employers are required to provide a new notice to "persons entitled to rights and benefits" of USERRA. The notice must be posted where employee notices are customarily placed. Additionally, service members may now elect to continue health care coverage under a COBRA-like program for a maximum period of 24 months.
