The Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services is happy to provide assistance to other Texas state agencies in the following areas.
Closed Captioning
The DARS Caption Center is proud to provide open and closed captions for video production and for the web. We were one of the first government entities in the country to begin captioning more than ten years ago and are well versed in current techniques and standards. We are capable of making caption duplication sub-masters in a BETA or D2 format. Duplications for distribution can be provided with open or closed captioning in VHS or DVD format. Captions for web transmission/download are developed according to standards released by WGBH, Boston. We are also available for consultation for captioning questions and standards. Communication Services for State Agencies (CSSA)
Some state agencies have streamlined their process in providing communication access for the consumers and employees by contracting with the Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) under DARS. These agencies have access to the negotiated rate DHHS has with their community partners statewide; the state agencies make the request for services to DHHS community partners; DHHS staff receives and approve for payment, invoices for services, eliminating the need for continually issuing individual purchase orders for services.
