NPR's Next Generation Radio Project
In partnership with minority journalist organizations, NPR member stations and the Collegiate Broadcasters Inc., NPR coordinates and leads week-long training sessions bringing professional producers, editors, and reporters together with college students interested in radio and journalism. Those who are competitively selected for these projects will report and produce their own radio stories after participation in teaching sessions on recording techniques, writing, voice and on-air presentation, and audio production.

Jobs at Local Stations / Other Public Radio Organizations
Search for employment opportunities elsewhere in public radio at the Jobline maintained by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. You may also search for jobs at the Web site of your local station.

NPR Employee Benefits

  • Our cafeteria-style benefits program allows employees to customize benefits. NPR offers three medical plans; two dental plans; a vision-care plan; supplemental life insurance; and other optional items. In addition, all employees receive term life insurance and long-term disability.
  • New employees accrue 3 weeks of annual leave per year. Leave accrual increases in increments with the maximum being six weeks at the beginning of 17 years of continuous service. In addition, employees receive personal and bereavement leave, and accrue 10 days of sick leave each year. NPR also has 10 paid holidays per year.
  • A retirement savings plan called a 403(b) plan. New employees are welcome to begin contributing towards their retirement immediately. After two years of employment, NPR starts making contributions equivalent to 10% of an employee's salary each year. All retirement funds are vested immediately.
  • Additional supplemental benefits that include direct deposit, a credit union, free checking at two local banks with direct deposit, an employee-assistance program, other voluntary insurance options, flexible spending accounts and a leave sharing program.
