Lead, Infrastructure Services

Itasca, IL

The Lead Infrastructure Services role is to oversee and ensure the efficient operation of the company’s network, servers, databases, and technology equipment. This includes managing the IT staff and/or vendor(s) responsible for monitoring, diagnosing and remediating related problems. The incumbent will also work closely with the IT management staff and decision makers in other departments in order to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Management; advanced degree in Business or Information Systems preferred.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in the execution of functions related to infrastructure operations and work flows.
  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in troubleshooting, managing and implementing IT hardware and software such as Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, HP Servers, tape libraries and battery backup solutions.
  • 5 years of experience as a senior member of staff in a comparable technology operation with supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, team-building, supervisory, and project management skills are essential.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional knowledge of: Microsoft Products such as Windows Server/Desktop. Exchange, Operations Manager, SharePoint, Forefront and Office.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional knowledge of Cisco Product Applications such as VOIP, VLANs, WLANS, and Video Conferencing.
  • Must have experience with data communications related to CoS/QoS and MPLS.
  • Must demonstrate a solid service orientation.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and set priorities for the design, maintenance, development, and evaluation of all infrastructure systems.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for various upgrade projects, improvements, and other conversions.
  • Test network and server performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining network infrastructure.
  • Manage operational costs; conduct near- and long-term financial forecasts for expanded functionality/user base.
  • Lead IT department operational planning and projects, and organize and negotiate the allocation of IT resources.
  • Ensure the efficient utilization of IT resources – including personnel and equipment – across the organization.
  • Oversee all reports and documentation related to network and systems operations.
  • Develop maintenance schedules for network and systems equipment.
  • Develop and implement all functional policies and procedures, including those for network architecture, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
  • Practice IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation.
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the network infrastructure and IT systems.
  • Conduct research and remain current with the latest technologies and solutions in support of company needs.
  • Develop requests for proposal.

Associate Editor

Itasca, IL

Writes and researches editorial content derived from Washington, DC, for the occupational, highway, and home and community markets. Edits and proofreads material.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, English or equivalent.
  • Ability to research, organize, write and edit technical material.
  • Previous editorial experience required.
  • Washington, DC experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience using general office equipment, computers, word processing and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft Word and Excel) required.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains current knowledge of news and trends, developments, legislation, and regulation developing on Capitol Hill and in federal agencies, including OSHA, EPA, HHS, etc.
  • Participates in developing editorial calendar and maintains source files.
  • Proposes topics and articles and suggests scope and focus of articles, assuring that articles are completed on schedule.
  • Researches material for articles using council library, reviewing periodicals, interviewing persons with expert knowledge of the topic and attending trade shows and professional seminars.
  • Writes clear, concise, concrete and interesting copy; suggests creative headlines and captions.
  • Develops strong relationships with key senior staff people in OSHA, MSHA, DOT, NHTSA, FMCSA, DHS, etc.
  • Establish a contact list to call on a moment’s notice for comment; i.e. be positioned to call the senior staff people at these agencies regularly for scoops, if not the senior appointed officials for comment.
  • Quality interviews along with attributable quotes and original commentary.
  • Understands and operates within Copyright law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
