The President today made additional disaster assistance available to the State of Iowa which was impacted by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding during the period of May 25 to August 13, 2008, by authorizing an increase in the level of Federal funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct Federal assistance, under the Public Assistance program

Vice President Biden continued his "Road to Recovery" tour this afternoon in Overland Park, Kansas, where he attended the groundbreaking for the US Highway 69 project.

On Thursday June 11, Vice President Biden will kick off his "Road to Recovery" tour where he will travel to communities across the country highlighting Recovery Act funds at work creating jobs and improving our nation’s infrastructure. The Vice President will be joined by Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

At today’s Cabinet Meeting, Vice President Joe Biden will present to President Barack Obama the Roadmap to Recovery, an Administration-wide effort to accelerate implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in its second 100 days. The Roadmap spotlights ten new major projects that will define the next three months of the Recovery Act and provides graphical illustrations of the activity that will be underway across the United States. As a result of this accelerated pace of activity, over 600,000 jobs are expected to be created or saved by the Recovery Act in the second 100 days – four times the number created or saved in the first 100 days.

The session was a unique opportunity for state leaders to share their ideas with the Obama Administration about the future of high-speed trains in America.

On Wednesday, June 3rd, Vice President Biden and Transportation Secretary LaHood will hold a roundtable discussion with Governors and state transportation officials on the High Speed Rail Grant Program in the Recovery Act. At this roundtable, state leaders will have the opportunity to share their ideas about High Speed Rail with the Obama Administration in advance of this summer’s application process.
