Friday, September 18, 2009 -The Bureau of Transportation Statistics has released the data for the 2008 update to the National Census of Ferry Operators. The database for 2008 covers 213 operators, serving 282 route segments with 426 terminals in 33 states. The 213 operators reported a fleet of 721 vessels. This biennial census covers scheduled common carrier passenger, vehicle and railroad car float ferries. BTS provides an overview of the database as well as tables on operators, routes, terminals, and vessels. The database was mandated by legislation enacted in 2005.
