Lists of Missing Persons and Parental Kidnappings
Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Initiatives:
- The Assistant Attorney General for OJP serves as the National AMBER
Alert Coordinator. AMBER Alert is an urgent bulletin system
for the most serious child-abduction cases. OJP facilitates AMBER
network development, supports the development of state AMBER plans
and efforts, helps eliminate geographic gaps in AMBER networks,
provides regional AMBER network coordination and provides guidance
on criteria for issuing an AMBER Alert.
- The Office
of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Child
Protection Division provides support to organizations that combat
the problem of missing children.
- The National Institute of Justice launched the NamUs
- National Missing and Unidentified Persons System database. This
Internet-based tool will enable investigators, forensics professionals,
and the public to cross-reference records of missing persons and
unidentified remains, and bring answers to families of the missing.
