CLARKSVILLE MAN FACES TAX CHARGES
NASHVILLE, TN – August 9, 2001 – Richard F. Clippard, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, and Clayton L. Cooper, Special Agent-in-Charge, IRS-Criminal Investigation, announced today that Noel Reese Bagwell, Jr., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Nashville. The indictment charges Bagwell with three counts of failing to file federal income tax returns for calendar years 1994, 1995 and 1996.
According to the indictment, Bagwell, a resident of Clarksville, Tennessee, received gross income of approximately $159,599 in 1994; $685,011 in 1995; and $438,108 in 1996. The indictment states that by reason of having such gross income, Bagwell was required by law to file a federal income tax return for each of these years. The indictment further alleges that Bagwell, although he was aware of this requirement, did not file federal income tax returns for 1994, 1995 or 1996.
This case was investigated by IRS-Criminal Investigation Special Agent Dennis Holstein. Assistant U.S. Attorney Darryl Stewart will prosecute the case for the government.
