Federal Bar Association’s Indian Law Conference
The Federal Bar Association’s (FBA) Indian Law Section will hold its 34th Annual Indian Law Conference at the Hilton Santa Fe at Buffalo Thunder Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico, April 1-2, 2009. The Native American Bar Association and the National Native American Law Students Association will each hold annual meetings in conjunction with the conference.
The conference will feature plenary sessions and meetings focusing on a broad range of topics critical to the development of Indian law. Nationally recognized leaders in the field of federal Indian law will serve as presenters.
Again this year, the Department of Justice will sponsor an outreach/recruitment booth as part of the conference. Anna Rosario from JMD’s Equal Employment Opportunity Staff will be available to speak to and establish contacts with Native American law students and encourage them to apply to entry-level positions through the Attorney General’s Honor Program and to participate in the Summer Law Intern Program. In addition, this provides an opportunity to recruit highly qualified attorneys who are experienced in Indian and various other areas of law. Legal divisions and other components that employ a significant number of attorneys are encouraged to attend the conference and participate in this recruitment effort. Participation in the conference is consistent with the Department’s policy and commitment to recruit a diverse workforce.
For further details about the conference and to register on line visit www.fedbar.org. Please have members of your staff provide names of those attending to Anna M. Rosario, Departmental American Indian/Alaska Native Program Manager, via email at Anna.M.Rosario@usdoj.gov.
