WASHINGTON, D.C.—MAJORITY LEADER HOYER, SECOND HIGHEST LEADER IN U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, TO STOP OVER IN AMERICAN SAMOA

Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that Congressman Steny Hoyer, Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, and 12 Members of Congress, and 7 spouses, will arrive in American Samoa at 12:30 today for a very brief visit.

Majority Leader Hoyer is the second highest leader in the U.S. House of Representatives and I am pleased to welcome him and his delegation to American Samoa,” Congressman Faleomavaega said.  “Although their stopover will be very brief, I appreciate the Majority Leader advising me of their visit.”

“Majority Leader Hoyer and I spoke yesterday and I had an opportunity to personally tell him about the needs of our veterans and the patriotism of our people.  I informed him of the sacrifices being made by our men and women in uniform, and how we are fully behind our troops and pray for their safe return.”

“We also talked about the political climate in American Samoa noting that the Governor and I both support the Democratic Party although we are for different candidates for President.  I also wish the Governor a speedy recovery from his recent operation and hope that he and other leaders of ASG will have an opportunity to meet with Majority Leader Hoyer and his delegation during their visit to the Territory,” Faleomavaega said.

“My Chief of Staff, Iuli Godinet, is coordinating the Majority Leader’s visit with the Governor’s office.  Majority Leader Hoyer is already aware that I am in Israel at this time with a Pacific Island delegation discussing ways in which the Israeli government can help us with renewable energy resources including solar, wind, and water technology.  We are also discussing healthcare advancements in diabetes, etc, and I will be issuing a separate release on this official and historic visit.”

“For now, I want to again welcome Majority Leader Hoyer and his delegation to American Samoa.  Having known Congressman Hoyer for some twenty years now, I can say without a doubt that he is a good man, an honest leader, and a hard worker with an impressive record of achievement.  Majority Leader Hoyer is also a true statesman and consensus builder committed to making America better and keeping us strong.  I am proud to call Steny Hoyer my friend and it is my honor to welcome him and his delegation to American Samoa,” Faleomavaega concluded.
