Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that the U.S. Congress has directed the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness to allocate $468,716 to American Samoa under the Fiscal Year 2006 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) Program.

“The FY 2006 Appropriations Act for the Department of Homeland Security included $185 million for the EMPG Program to support comprehensive state and local emergency management.  These funds will also be used to encourage the improvement of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities for all hazards.”

“The money provided through this grant will allow the American Samoan Government (ASG) to respond to our local emergencies more effectively,” Faleomavaega said, “and I thank my colleagues for their continued support.”
