You can call our toll-free 800-Number Information Center for answers to your general tax questions. Representatives are available to assist you Monday through Friday (except state holidays) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time).

Board of Equalization Offices

If you have specific questions about your Sales and Use Tax account, please call your nearest State Board of Equalization Office. For questions concerning your Special Tax or Fee account, please contact the Environmental Fees Section, Excise Taxes Section or the Fuel Taxes Division which administers your program. If you are unsure which division administers your tax or fee program, you may visit our Property and Special Taxes Department page for a list of programs.

Board of Equalization Tax Evasion Hotline

The Tax Evasion Hotline was created to provide an outlet for concerned citizens who are aware of tax evasion, in any form, to report problems directly to the Board of Equalization. The toll-free number is now available, and representatives are available to take calls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (Pacific Standard Time), excluding State holidays.

The Tax Evasion Hotline can be accessed by calling 888-334-3300.

Registration

The Board of Equalization wants to make doing business in California as easy as possible. To register for a Seller's Permit, you can register in person at one of our field offices, or by mail. Or, you can call our Information Center at 800-400-7115, and we will mail you an application. Seller's Permit Applications are also available for downloading and printing in the Forms and Publications section of our home page. To register for a Fuel Tax, Excise Tax or Environmental Fee program you should contact the specific division directly. A list of the tax programs and contact information may be found on our registration page.

If you have been unable to resolve a disagreement with the Board, or if you would like to know more about your rights under the law, please contact the Taxpayers' Rights Advocate toll-free at 888-324-2798.

The toll-free hotline offers tax practitioners access to information, duplicate tax returns and other forms and publications. Customer service representatives and tax opinion experts are available to answer your questions from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Pacific time, Monday through Friday, excluding State holidays. Duplicate tax returns, forms, and publications can be requested through automated services twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
