Overview
Cooperative initiative to assist the American Subcontractors Association of
Central Pennsylvania (ASACP) with information and out reach assistance in a
effort become fully compliant with OSHA Standards and Regulations applicable to
the construction trade. The ASACP is comprised of 100 different companies
expressing a desire to stay up-to-date with OSHA regulations, safety training,
professional and business development through varied educational seminars and
programs, monthly membership meetings and professional advice from our retained
consultants.
Implementation Team Members

1. July 19, 2007 –"In’s and Outs of EMR" presentation provided by Richard
Atkinson, HDH Byerly Insurance to 10 members of the ASACP
2. Oct 17, 2007 –"Safety Pays" presentation by the CAS at the Holiday Inn in
Grantville, PA
3. Nov, 21 2007 –"How Does your Safety Program Stack Up", presented by the CAS
to 9 members of the ASACP.
4. Dec 19, 2008 –"Jobsite Security", presented by the membership to 13 members
of the ASACP.
5. Jan 16, 2008 –"Legal Liabilities in Construction", presented by Beckley and
Madden to 8 members of the ASACP.
6. Feb 20, 2008 –"Call Before You Dig", presented by Pennsylvania One Call to 8
members of the ASACP.
7. Mar 19, 2008 –"Drug Testing in Construction", presented by the membership to
8 members of the ASACP.
8. Apr 16, 2008 –"New Lifting Techniques", presented by the membership to 5
members of the ASACP.
9. May 21, 2008 –"Youth in Construction", presented by Ms. Barb Adams of the
Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Office to 8 members of the ASACP.

Outreach and Communication

Events
March 15, 2008:"Safety Awards Banquet". ASA conducts an annual awards banquet.
Awards are awarded in 2 categories: Those without a lost time injury and those
with accident rates below their BLS industry average. The best record so far has
been 300,000 man-hours without an injury.

Products
The ASACP prepares and distributes a monthly newsletter,"The Blueprint" which
is sent out to members of the ASACP and to professional businesses associated
with the building trade. Current distribution is 325 member companies, General
Contractors, Construction Managers and architects. Each issue includes a one
page safety segment and over the course of the year discuss a wide range of
topics from accident prevention to crane safety. These newsletters are available
on the
ASACP website. ASACP also sends each of the members an email message called,"Blueprint Weekly" to review current issues, including safety.

IV. Results
The fourth year of the Alliance was primarily devoted to conducting monthly
training sessions, giving OSHA updates and answering questions raised by members
during the American Subcontractor Association’s 2007 and 2008 monthly meetings.
Similar activities will occur during the next year of the Alliance, however, we
will continue provide training more in line with the types of injuries being
experienced within this chapters trades. Our efforts will continued be geared
toward establishing relationships with inactive members and improving
relationships with active members.

V. Upcoming Milestones

The Safety Team is also working on creating a generic safety program template
for use by other members.
