Mayor Martin Chávez & Dukes

City Pets Information

Mayor Chávez has pledged to end animal euthanasia at city shelters by 2009. The mayor is a stong proponent of pet adoption and having pets neutered or spayed.

Albuquerque's HEART pet ordinance imposes an annual fee of $150 on pet owners whose animals are able to reproduce. In additition, residents must have a permit to keep four or more dogs.

These actions make Albuquerque a pet-friendly city.

Has been helping to care for prairie dogs in the city. Donations are now being accepted for the humane rescue and relocation of the Calvary Church prairie dogs at any Well Fargo Branch bank under the account entitled “PRAIRIE DOG RESCUE.”

The rescue of these unfortunate creatures, some of Albuquerque’s oldest residents, remains unfunded by the new residents at the site of the old Blue Cross Blue Shield Building. Your support is crucial to their survival. Cash or check donations may be made at any Wells Fargo branch, for your convenience. Should you choose to donate in cash, please consider leaving a receipt with your contact information. Prairie Dog Pals would like to send you an acknowledgment so that you may take advantage of your tax-deductible donation.
