Program-wide Activities
The Applied Sciences Program conducts projects revealing innovative uses of NASA earth observations, models, and combinations thereof to demonstrate operational decision-making benefits in a variety of application areas. Throughout Applied Sciences existence, the extension of funded applications projects and the results of collaborative efforts have enabled,
- the development of new professionals with an earth science familiarity
- synergistic access of earth observations data applicable to national and international problems
- the association with a nexus of scientists and researchers that address regional and national applications problems and initiatives
SERVIRThe SERVIR initiative integrates satellite observations, ground-based data and forecast models to monitor and forecast environmental changes and to improve response to natural disasters. This is done on a regional basis, there are active SERVIR centers in both Central America and Africa. |
DEVELOPDEVELOP is an Applied Sciences Program that fosters human capital development to extend NASA science research to local communities. Students demonstrate to community leaders prototype applications of NASA science measurements and predictions addressing local policy issues. |
The Gulf of Mexico InitiativeThis initiative addresses issues arising out of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance pertaining to coastal management. NASA’s Stennis Space Center is ideally positioned to work with various agencies –NOAA, EPA, Northern Gulf Institute and other state and local organizations to identify user needs that can be addressed by earth observing satellites and other NASA earth science technologies. |
