Update to Memorial Day Weather Outlook
The Memorial Day Weekend marks the traditional start of the summer vacation season, and many folks will be traveling around the region. While our weather has been relatively quiet, and cold, that is about to change. A powerful late spring storm system, taking shape in the Rockies, will lift northward during the weekend. As is always the case, there is some uncertainty as to the eventual path of the low pressure system. However, it does appear that this storm may bring some severe weather to the Red River Valley region. The best chance for severe weather appears to be Saturday through Saturday night, with the main threat large hail and damaging winds.
In the wake of this potent storm, colder air will again invade the region. At this time it looks like the risk of frost is not as nearly great as earlier expected. Your NOAA’s NWS will monitor the developing storm and issue updated forecasts as needed.
