WestLINK Amateur Radio Network
WestLINK is a unique
automated scanning link which is accessed and controlled thru the 147.39 (+) repeater in
Bismarck. This system currently scans seven amateur radio towers in western
North Dakota and northwest South Dakota. Amateur radio operators at the National
Weather Service in Bismarck (W0ZRT) use this system to relay critical information during
severe weather episodes.
If you have monitored 147.39 MHz in the Bismarck area you may have heard various QSOs
preceeded by a computer voiced number. What you are hearing is the activity on the various
repeaters on the map above. The number code that you hear represents the repeater you are
listening to.
Accessing WestLINK
Use your tone pad to
key in the following five digit number:
1. The first three numbers are always "123". This sequence alerts the link
controller of your presence.
2. The FOURTH number is the code number of the repeater you want to link to. This code is
listed in the map above.
3. The FIFTH number selects the antenna you want to use (0 is Omni, 2 is North, 4 is
southwest, and 6 is east).
When you link into a repeater you may operate as usual, just as if you were in the
vicinity of that machine. Please observe good repeater courtesy.
Leaving the WestLINK
When you are
finished, ALWAYS put the link back into scan mode:
1. Use you tone pad and enter "123#0". The "#" digit puts the WestLINK
into scan mode and activates the computer voice. The "0" digit activates the
Omni antenna. |
