The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to present the 2009 Official Directory of the County of Sussex. This Directory provides information on County elected officials and departments, boards and commissions, and related agencies that provide for the many services offered by County government, as well as information on our Federal and State representatives and municipal elected officials and municipal contact information.
     New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC)
The New Jersey Association of Counties serves as an advocacy group for county governments and their taxpayers, promotes federal and state legislative initiatives that advance county interests, fosters cooperation and coordination among New Jersey’s 21 counties and aids county officials in providing efficient and effective service to their constituencies.

     Sussex County Economic Development Partnership (SCEDP)
The Sussex County Economic Development Partnership is a public-private partnership dedicated to business expansion and retention in Sussex County. Funding for the SCEDP is provided by the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders (approximately 50% if total), private contributions and contributions from municipal government.

     Health & Human Services Needs Assessment
The unprecedented growth experienced by Sussex County over the last decade has resulted in an increased demand for health and human services. In order to respond to the needs expressed as well as to plan for needs which may emerge as a result of the changing demographics, the Sussex County Human Services Advisory Council sought the support of the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services and the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders to conduct a consumer based countywide assessment of health and human services needs.
     Host Home Program
The Sussex County Youth Shelter Program is seeking dedicated people to serve as Host Home Parents. The Host Home Program provides temporary placement (up to 28 days) for At-Risk, Court Ordered Youth, that are placed through the Division of Youth and Family Services, Family Court, Family Crisis Intervention Unit or Probation.

     Substance Abuse Plan
The purpose of the Sussex County Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Services Plan is to provide the County with the identified needs for prevention and treatment services for alcohol and substance abuse and create guidelines to assist with the prioritization of these service needs. In addition, this Plan incorporates the identified needs of other County Planning Bodies.

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture is charged with developing, promoting, conserving and supporting the agricultural and agribusiness industry of the state and those natural resources that are associated with agriculture and other open lands for the benefit of all the citizens of the state.

     New Jersey Office of Smart Growth
The New Jersey Office of Smart Growth is the land use-planning unit for the State of New Jersey. The Office provides administrative and technical support to the New Jersey State Planning Commission and the New Jersey Brownfields Redevelopment Task Force. The State Planning Commission is charged with coordinating state land use policies, implementing the New Jersey State Development and Redevelopment Plan and encouraging the use of effective and efficient planning resources, tools and techniques to local governments, businesses, and citizens.
     North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA)
The NJTPA is the federally sanctioned Metropolitan Planning Organization for the 6 million people in the 13-county northern New Jersey region (including Sussex County). The NJTPA evaluates and approves proposed transportation improvement projects and provides a forum for interagency cooperation and public input into funding decisions. It also sponsors and conducts studies, assists county plannning agencies and monitors compliance with national air quality goals.
