Councilor Michael Cadigan to Introduce Veterans' Bill

Councilor Michael Cadigan will introduce a resolution at the Monday August 3, 2009 Council meeting directing the administration to create an office of Veteran’s Affairs which would serve veterans through advocacy and referral services.

Councilor Cadigan’s bill also calls for the administration to post on the city’s website a resource listing of transition assistance services for military members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The listing will include resources such as housing, education, health care and employment resources.

"The brave men and women in our armed forces, as well as, their families sacrifice daily to ensure our way of life. We must be steadfast in our commitment to our veterans and make certain they are provided the entitlements promised to them by our nation,” said Councilor Cadigan.

The Albuquerque area is home to more than 60,000 veterans, and more than 1,250 service members from New Mexico are currently deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
