Ridgecrest Field Office
Situated at the edge of the Mojave Desert and the toe of the Sierras, Ridgecrest is a great place to be if you love the outdoors. There is no such thing as cabin fever in Ridgecrest. In the winter when the snow is covering the higher elevations and the frozen north, vast expanses of open desert provide recreational opportunities for OHV enthusiasts, rock hounds, or people looking for a quiet wilderness experience (Death Valley National Park is just up the road). In the summer when the desert temperatures are a little on the warm side, head to the mountains for breathtaking hikes (ever heard of the Pacific Crest Trail) and world class trout fisheries. Is bass fishing is what you prefer, Lake Isabella, one of California's premiere warm water fisheries is just around the corner. Did you know the highest point and the lowest point in the continental United States are with in a short drive or Ridgecrest? (Mt. Whitney is the highest and Death Valley is the lowest.) If you are looking for a central location to all kinds of outdoor recreational opportunities, Ridgecrest is your place.

On the webpage you will find a complete copy of the EA, its appendices, a signed copy of the BLM’s Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), and the Decision Record with Appendecies A and C. The EA assesses the potential impacts to resources caused as a result of the Proposed Action. The Proposed Action includes the pumping of up to 4,500 gallons-of-water-per-minute from two existing water wells and the installation of a power substation, a 12” water pipeline and a 250,000 gallon water holding tank on about 5 acres of private land, and the installation of approximately 9 miles of a 20” water pipeline and the emplacement of a 1.5 million gallon water holding tank across both BLM and Department of the Navy administered lands adjacent to Gill Station Road, terminating on the Navy withdrawn land near the 1.5 million gallon tank at the COSO Geothermal field. The assessments, DOI-BLM-CA-D05000-2009-077 and CA-650-2008-27 are for the authorization of sheep grazing and cattle grazing on the Lava Mountain Allotment and the Lacey-Cactus-McCloud Allotment, respectively. The comment period will be from July 27, 2009 through August 25, 2009. Written comments may be sent to Bureau of Land Management, Ridgecrest FO, 300 S. Richmond Road, Ridgecrest, CA 93555. Comments in the form of attachments to e-mails may be sent to Sam_T_Fitton@blm.gov. All comments must be received by 4:00 pm on August 25th.
