Fish and Wildlife Service to Conduct Status Reviews for 29 Species |

Following a review of a petition seeking to protect 206 species under the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that 29 of the petitioned species may warrant Federal protection. The Service will undertake a more thorough review of these species to determine whether to propose adding them to the Federal list of threatened and endangered wildlife and plants.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced a proposal to protect seven Brazilian bird species as endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). If made final, the measure would extend ESA protection to these species.

Endangered Piping Plover Chicks Make History |

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources confirmed that a pair of piping plovers constructed a nest and tended their eggs this summer on a remote stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline in northern Illinois. This is the first piping plover nest found in Illinois since 1979.

Fish and Wildlife Service Announces Changes in Senior Leadership Team |

The Fish and Wildlife Service announced today that two members of its senior leadership team will trade positions. Bryan Arroyo, currently assistant director for Endangered Species, will become assistant director for Fisheries and Habitat Conservation, while Gary Frazer, currently assistant director for Fisheries and Habitat Conservation, will assume management of the Endangered Species Program.
