Community, Beauty, Sustainability

The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, located in Wyoming's largest municipal park, Lions Park, is Wyoming's only public botanic garden. It began in 1977 as the Cheyenne Community Solar Greenhouse. It was one of the nation's first large-scale, solar-heated greenhouses, built by volunteers. The project pioneered a garden that provided therapy and meaningful activity to seniors, youth at risk and handicapped volunteers, a tradition that continues today.

The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens . . .
Where sustainability is not just a buzzword, it has been a working philosophy since 1977

VOLUNTEERS
We have one of the highest volunteer-to-staff ratios of any botanical garden: Over 90% of the labor is provided by incredible senior, youth and handicapped volunteers. Applied horticultural therapy is a part of our everyday activity. This enables a small town to have a sustainable botanic garden. It also provides meaningful work to those who have so much to give to their community. People are part of our philosophy of being sustainable.

RENEWABLE ENERGY
Our unique solar conservatory is 100% solar heated and 50% of our electricity is also powered by the sun !!!

We are the Intermountain West's oldest and one of the largest public demonstration sites for sustainable renewable energy!
Free energy enables a small town to have a botanic garden!

PLANTS

We function as a traditional public botanic garden with 9 acres of landscapes and gardens located in Cheyenne's premier park (Lions Park). We have numerous specialty gardens and landscapes outside including native, xeric, annuals, perennials, cacti, water gardens, a labyrinth, community gardens and more.

We also grow and plant over 60 flower beds in our local parks and parkways functioning as a municipal nursery.

At the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, you will find history, inspiration and innovation along with community, beauty and sustainability.

Our solar conservatory displays tropical plants, herb, cacti and many other useful and beautiful plants.

Come see first-hand how people have come together in this small city under extreme weather conditions to perpetuate the values of community, beauty and sustainability.
