Middle East

The FDA Middle East Office will provide the FDA’s formal on-the-ground presence in the region, including the countries of North Africa and the broader Middle East. FDA does not yet have staff permanently located in the region, but expects to in the near future. Nevertheless, the Office works closely with and facilitates interactions between FDA’s product centers and regulatory, industry, and academic groups in each country and other U.S. Government agencies in the region. The Office seeks to strengthen the regulatory infrastructure, preventive controls, and production practices in foreign countries to help ensure that products we receive from other countries meet our standards for import into the United States and improve information exchanges for better decision-making. The ultimate goal of improving the safety and quality of products imported into the U.S. is to improve the public health of populations both at home and abroad. Initiatives and activities undertaken by FDA’s Middle East Office are designed to enhance the ability of our trading partners to meet FDA standards and the U.S. levels of protection for products exported to the United States. Staff at FDA headquarters in Rockville, MD, complement the in-country staff and facilitate interactions with FDA experts in its product centers, field offices in the United States, the embassies in Washington, D.C., and U.S.-based Government agencies.
