Councilor Benton Elected Chair of Rio Metro

On June 16, 2009, City Councilor Isaac Benton was unanimously elected to serve as the Chair of Rio Metro, the Regional Transit District Board. He has been Vice Chair of the board for the past two years. Terese Ulivarri, City Councilor of Belen, was elected Vice Chair.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to Chair the transit district of New Mexico's most populous region. Rio Metro has a unique opportunity to use public resources efficiently and provide high-quality services to transit users," said Councilor Benton. "I look forward to working with all of the City's partners in the region to improve transit service overall and make convenient connections to the New Mexico RailRunner."

Councilor Benton, who served as Chair of the City's 21st Century Transportation Task Force in 2008, has been a leading advocate for providing comprehensive transit service ever since joining the City Council in 2005.
