Bald Eagle Shot Near Rosholt, South Dakota

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Department are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the shooting of an immature bald eagle along State highway 127.  Specifically the eagle was shot five miles east and three and one half miles north of Rosholt, Roberts County, South Dakota.  This is also approximately two miles south of the North Dakota/South Dakota state line and two miles west of the Minnesota/South Dakota state line.  The eagle was shot prior to April 11, 2009.

 

The eagle was transported to the Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown, South Dakota, where it had to be euthanized due to the extent of its injuries.

Bald Eagles are protected by both federal and state law.  Bald eagles are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
