NATIONAL TRAIL’S DAY!

This year’s 6th annual Arvada Celebrates its Trails has once again joined forces with Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge and Majestic View Nature Center in an expanded free event to be held at both locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008.  However, the activities start spinning at 9:00 a.m. with a hosted 22-mile bicycle ride sponsored by the Denver Bicycle Touring Club. This free ride is open to everyone and reservations are not required. Participants should meet at the new Majestic View parking lot at 72nd, just west of Carr St at 8:45am.

The focus of this year’s event will be on our natural environment and the many opportunities offered by the Arvada Trails and National Refuge system.  In keeping with this theme, both locations will offer many environmental educational and entertaining activities for the entire family.  A highlight of this year’s event will be a hosted walk that will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge and end at Majestic View Nature Center. In addition, free shuttles will run regularly between both sites and complimentary Refreshments will be available at both locations.

Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge activities will include a variety of environmental education displays and activities for kids and adults, live raptors, self-guided nature walks on their trail system, wildlife contraband, wildlife photography, booths from Eagle Repository, Birds of Prey foundation, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and Wild birds Unlimited, as well as performances from “Teddy Roosevelt” and “Mr. Bones” throughout the day. Majestic View Nature Center activities will feature live animal appearances by Denver Zoo, a Wildlife Workshop and Reptile/Amphibian Talk by Colorado Division of Wildlife, nature exhibits, bird walks, kids environmental activities, Arvada trail maps, water conservation ideas, and Arvada Animal Management.

This event will be a great opportunity for you to experience and learn more about two great nature facilities in Arvada.  So mark your calendars, get those bicycles and walking

shoes ready, and plan on spending a few hours with us outside!
