$42 million in the Recovery Act for Environmental Projects in South Dakota
The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources will receive nearly $42 million in stimulus funds as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also known as the Stimulus Bill or Recovery Act.
The department will receive $19,239,100 in EPA Clean Water State Revolving funds, $19.5 million in EPA Drinking Water State Revolving funds, $1.7 million in State Clean Diesel Grant Program funds, and $1.5 million in EPA Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust funds.
The Stimulus Bill funds are specifically designated for public wastewater, drinking water, and storm water projects; activities to reduce air emissions from diesel engines; or to clean up petroleum contamination from leaking underground storage tanks under certain circumstances. There are guidelines that must be followed to obtain Stimulus Bill funds and strict timelines for awarding and spending the funds. DENR has developed websites to summarize some of the key points related to the Stimulus Bill funds.
