Governor Rounds announces increase in food stamp benefits due to stimulus funding
Food Stamp Program benefits increasing April 1
PIERRE, S.D. –Gov. Mike Rounds announced today that most low-income South Dakota households will receive additional food assistance as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Beginning April 1, the maximum monthly benefit will increase based on household size.
“An unprecedented number of South Dakotans have applied for food stamp benefits in recent months,” Gov. Rounds said. “More South Dakotans will be able to put food on the table and take care of their families, which helps alleviate some of the financial stress these families have been feeling.”
The current maximum allotment for a family of four is $588. Beginning April 1, the maximum allotment for a family of four will increase to $668.
