What is Poetry on the Bus?

ABQ Ride conceived the Poetry on the Bus program in 2008 in an effort to create a meaningful experience for our riders. We want our passengers to find company in poetry of all forms while on their trip. Several of our riders have expressed how poetry on the bus has positively impacted their commute.

Last year ABQ Ride was humbled by the 465 poems submitted by applicants from the greater Albuquerque area.

This year our judges are eagerly awaiting the submissions of new poems for Poetry on the Bus 2009. The winners will be announced, and the poems displayed at a closing exhibition and reception. The winning poems will also be featured throughout the interior of the ABQ Ride bus fleet.

Rules

• Choose your best work! One poem per applicant
• DO NOT put your name on your poetry submissions.
• Your name should be on the application ONLY.
• Poems must be 50 words or less, not counting the title
• Poems must reflect a theme chosen by the writer (you!)
• Poems must be authored by the applicant and previously unpublished
• All residents of Albuquerque and the surrounding communities are eligible to submit except for employees and immediate family of ABQ Ride or the judges.
• There is no age limit on submissions
• Copyright for published poems remains with the author
• Application plus 4 copies of the poem must be submitted and received via mail by July 31, 2009
