Renewable Energy Financing District Act

What is a Renewable Energy Financing District?
- The Albuquerque Renewable Energy Financing District is basically an alternative loan program for property owners who want to install renewable energy technology, but are stopped by the upfront costs.
What types of renewable energy may be included in this financing program?
The Benefits to property owners for participating in the Renewable Energy Financing District are:
- A streamlined financing and repayment process;
- Fixed-rate financing;
- Financing with minimal upfront cost;
- Repayment is made easy by becoming a part of your annual property tax bill;
- Repayment obligations stay with your property if you sell;
- When energy cost increase, the cost of renewable energy from your system is fixed;
- Lower energy use translates directly into reduced greenhouse gas emissions and helps secure our energy future;
What is the financial model?
Although this program and financing options are still under development, what might a property owner expect?
- Loans can be funded for up to 20 years.
- Loan repayment is accomplished through an assessment on your property tax bill.
- Most renewable energy technologies offset energy cost paid to the local utility.

- Perform an Energy Star Self–Assessment of your property’s energy use. This will help you begin to prepare for the application process and show you low cost ways to reduce your energy use.
