Why We Use Direct Messages

We want to help you keep your private information private.

In order for you to send us private messages (known as direct messages in Twitter), we must be following one another.

That's why we suggest you follow us by either clicking the Follow button on our page or typing follow cabq in your Twitter update box.

You only need to do follow us once, and then we'll be friends forever. Or until you stop following us, anyway.

Why Direct Messages?

Twitter is useful because it is a public forum. We can keep everyone we care about up-to-date on what we're doing. But because it's a public forum, we have to be careful about the information we share.

Sometimes, you'll want to provide information to the City of Albuquerque 311 that you don't want to provide to the world. That's when you use a direct message.

Similarly, when we open up a service ticket to address a graffiti complaint or pothole, we don't want to tell every citizen in Albuquerque.

Let's Be Friends!

So, although you're welcome to write to us by typing @cabq and sharing your question or concern with the world, we encourage you to follow us so we can talk privately.

We're looking forward to hearing from you!
