A Walk-in Area (WIA) is a tract of private land on which the Wyoming Game and Fish Department has leased rights for public hunting enjoyment. A participating landowner receives a monetary reward based on the number of deeded acres enrolled in the program. Public access to a WIAs limited to hunting only during the time period and only for the specific species of wildlife listed on the species tables. As the name states, public access to Walk-in Areas is restricted to foot traffic only, (large WIA’s may allow horseback access – please check species tables). Hunters are not required to and are advised not to seek permission from the landowner to hunt the approved species on the WIAs. Just walk right in. All WIAs will have signs posted to mark their boundaries.
The WIA program is the result of a concerted effort on the part of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to enhance hunting opportunities in Wyoming. To insure the success of this program in providing public hunting opportunities, cooperation from hunters using WIAs expected. Each hunter should review the WIA Rules prior to going into the field.
