AFSC Internships:  Application Process

Everyone is encouraged to apply for an AFSC internship. In order to qualify for a paid internship at the AFSC you must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student and a U.S. citizen. The number of paid internships is limited and is partially determined by the individual's financial need, which is considered during the selection process. (See financial statement below).

All internships are 10 weeks in length. Interns selected for paid internships are required to work 40 hrs/wk. Interns selected for unpaid/volunteer internships may have a more flexible work week, such as working only 32 hrs/wk.

In addition, students from the University of Washington (UW) School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS) may be eligible for a UW SAFS scholarship and course credits upon completion of an AFSC internship.  More information.

The Alaska Fishery Science Center will provide all necessary safety training for internship activities in the laboratory or in the field as required by each project.

NOTE: At this time the application deadline for the 2009 internships has passed and applications are currently not accepted.  The 2010 project decriptions are expected to be posted sometime between December 2009 and January 2010. The application process for 2010 will begin after that time. Please check back then.
