Program Description:
Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to high rise apartments for elderly families. The Public Housing Capital Fund under ARRA will rehabilitate affordable housing and improve key public facilities – stabilizing communities and creating jobs locally. $4 billion will be invested in energy efficient modernization and renovation of our nation’s critical public housing inventory.
Albuquerque Housing Services - a division of the City's Department of Family and Community Services - is the owner and manager of 953 housing units throughout Albuquerque. These units provide affordable housing for low income families, the elderly and disabled individuals. Tenants of public housing units pay 30% of their income toward their rent.
