Non-Immigrant Visas
Visiting the United States of America
Nonimmigrant visas are for travelers who plan to go to the United States for a short duration for tourism, medical treatment, school, business or for temporary work. A nonimmigrant visa will not give you legal permanent residency (a “green card”) or allow you to stay indefinitely in the United States. Depending on the class of visa, it may be illegal for you to work in the United States. Failure to abide by the rules of your visa may jeopardize your chances to obtain a visa in the future, so it is important that you pay attention to the appropriate regulations.
We recommend that travelers who require a visa should apply weeks or a few months ahead of their trip, to make sure that they obtain their visa on time.
Please note that simply obtaining a visa does not guarantee that you will be allowed into the United States. The officers at the port of entry will make a final determination for admission to the United States.
