Appointments

Appointments are mandatory for all services including passports, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, notary services, and adding visa pages.  Please note that our Federal Benefits Unit has a separate scheduling procedure for Social Security services.

You should arrive at the Consulate for security screening at your appointment time.   If you are more than 30 minutes late, you will be asked to schedule a new appointment so that we can attend to clients who arrived on time.

Security Screening

To facilitate access to the Consular Section, please carry only those items that are absolutely necessary.  Please review our strict security requirements for more details.

Scheduling Appointments

We schedule appointments to minimize wait times and accommodate as many American citizens as possible.  Please remember that each individual applicant requires a separate appointment.

Please also note the following specific information when scheduling an appointment:

  • Consular Reports of Birth Abroad. If you plan to submit applications for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad for multiple children at the same time, each child requires an appointment. For example, two children require two appointments; eight children require eight appointments. Parents may apply for a child’s first passport and apply for the child's new Social Security number while applying for the child’s Consular Report of Birth without making a separate passport appointment.
  • Passports.  If you are submitting passport applications for more than one family member on the same day, each application requires a separate appointment.
  • Booking multiple appointments. The system automatically cancels duplicate appointments. If you need to book more than one appointment on the same day, please add the number "2" after your first name so the system will recognize it as a separate appointment.
  • Filling out the on-line request.  You must use a valid e-mail address to complete the on-line request form.  If someone else assists you in scheduling an appointment, the e-mail address used must still be a valid address.
  • Names. Every appointment must include the child’s surname.  If the child is not yet born or has not yet been named, please enter “Unnamed Child” or “Child” for the first name.
  • Computers set to the Hebrew or Arabic languages.  If your computer is set to Hebrew or Arabic as the primary language, the system might not process your date of birth. Before trying to make an appointment, please go to the Control Panel from your Windows START menu then click on the "Regional and Language Settings" and choose "English (US)" in the Regional Options.
  • Bring a print-out of the appointment confirmation.  When you schedule your appointment on-line, make sure you print out the "Appointment Details" page that the system will generate.  You should bring this print-out to check in when you come to the Consulate.  If you are not connected to printer when you make your appointment, please copy the text in the "Appointment Details" page and e-mail it to yourself so that you can print it later.
  • Passwords. Please write down your scheduling password, and do not lose it.  The Consulate cannot provide you with the password if you lose it.
  • Cancelling appointments.  If you cannot attend your scheduled appointment, please cancel it so that another person may use it.

Emergencies

If you have an urgent need to travel and cannot obtain an appointment, please contact us at JerusalemACS@state.gov to explain your situation and request an expedited appointment.  Your request will be reviewed by a consular officer.

Residents of the West Bank and Gaza

If you reside in the West Bank or Gaza and have been unable to obtain a permit from the Government of Israel to enter Jerusalem to visit our office, please e-mail or call us to make special arrangements to receive consular services.

Missed Appointments

We have a full schedule of appointments every day and a waiting list of applicants seeking services. If you are more than 30 minutes late, you will be asked to schedule a new appointment so that we can attend to clients who arrived on time.

Pending Cases

If you have already had an appointment, but the consul asked you to submit additional documentation, please follow the instruction sheet given to you during your interview.  An appointment is not required to drop off additional documents at our office between 12:30 and 2 p.m. on business days.
