Congressman Sestak Holds Working Families Resources Summit

Media, Pa – To provide constituents with the proper information and tools to compete in the workforce and care for themselves and their families, Congressman Joe Sestak (PA-07) hosted his first Working Families Resources Summit today at Interboro High School. The Congressman, recognizing the increasing burden being placed on families across his District, organized the summit to network constituents with government agencies and private organizations. More than 300 residents from across the region attended the event where government agencies at all levels were integrated with non-profit organizations to offer access to assistance with housing, student loans, employment, health care, disability aid and other existing support. Congressman Sestak Supports Extension of Cash for Clunkers Program

Washington, D.C. With reports of a possible suspension of the successful Cash for Clunkers Program, Congressman Joe Sestak’s office was in contact with local dealers yesterday to discuss the impact and options for addressing it. Congressman Sestak (PA-07) expressed his strong support for continuing the initiative, specifically pointing to its positive impact on car dealers. As a result, the Congressman is working with House leaders to pass legislation today that would transfer $2 billion in stimulus funds to replenish the program. Funds would be moved from Title 17 renewable energy guarantees.   »

Congressman Sestak Votes to Protect America’s Food Supply

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Joe Sestak (PA-07) voted for H.R. 2749, the Food Safety Enhancement Act. The bill, which passed the House of Representatives with a bipartisan majority of 283 - 142, gives the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) more authority to recall tainted products, inspect facilities that process food supplies, and establishes food safety guidelines for food processing facilities. The bill, which is a compromise solution crafted by the House Committees on Energy and Commerce and Agriculture, also includes numerous protections for farmers and smaller facilities to guarantee that the implementation of these new regulations will not jeopardize family farms, organic producers, or smaller processors.   »

Congressman Sestak Votes to Ensure Fair Elections

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Joe Sestak (PA-07) voted for, and the House passed, HR 2510, the Absentee Ballot Track, Receive, and Confirm Act. The bill, which passed unanimously, directs the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to make payments to reimburse states for the costs incurred in establishing, if the state so chooses, an absentee ballot tracking program for federal elections.  »

Congressman Sestak Votes to Support Our Troops

Washington, D.C. – To provide our service members and their families with the benefits they deserve, and to ensure our military is equipped and in a proper state of readiness to deal with 21st century challenges, Congressman Joe Sestak (PA – 07) supported the Fiscal Year 2010 Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which passed the House by a 400 to 30 margin. In total, HR 3326 appropriates $636.3 billion for the Department of Defense in Fiscal Year 2010, including funding for the ongoing contingency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. It provides a 3.4% pay increase for service members and includes $8.3 million to pay troops $500 for every month their term of service will be involuntarily extended in 2010 under the policy known as “stop loss.” Additionally, it includes $29.9 billion, $2 billion above the President’s request, to provide health care for our troops, including $500 million, $128 million above the request, for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and psychological health.  »

Congressman Sestak Helps Pass Key Small Business Bills

Washington, DC – Congressman Joe Sestak (PA-07), Vice-Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, supported passage of three critical programs for small businesses, which comprise 99 percent of American industry and employ half of the private sector workforce. The bills which passed the House today are H.R. 1807, the Educating Entrepreneurs through Today’s Technology, which will permit the Small business Administration to work with organizations that can provide the highest levels of entrepreneurial skill training programs; the Veterans Business Center Act, which provides funding for Veteran Small Business Development Center to offer business training skills to Veterans; and S. 1513, providing for an extension of programs under the Small Business Investment Act of 1958, which authorized the Small Business Innovation Research Program.  »

Congressman Sestak to Help Announce Bipartisan Effort Supporting Dairy Farmers

WASHINGTON, DC – With dairy farmers facing their worst financial crisis in 30 years, a bipartisan group of concerned Representatives will announce the revival of the Dairy Farmers Caucus tomorrow. Members will hold a press conference on Wednesday, July 29 at 10:00 AM in Room HC-7 of the United States Capitol to discuss the importance of the Caucus, which will advocate on behalf of the needs of our nation’s dairy farmers.  »
