Title: The Development of an Indigenous Fluoride Filter
The Cooper Union and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) students will work to develop a simple filter that removes fluoride from groundwater. In Ghana, where KNUST is located, as well as many other rural communities, the ingestion of fluoride from groundwater is a significant problem for young children as it leads to problems for tooth development. The filter will be designed to be easily built, affordable, incorporate local materials, and create little waste.
