Security Warnings

Scam Alert!!

The FBI has renewed a warning that con artists posing as federal court officials are using the threat of fines to obtain credit card numbers and other confidential data. Individuals have reported receiving telephone calls informing them that they have been selected for jury duty and that they will be fined if they refuse to verify their name and Social Security number or to give out their credit card numbers, according to a news release issued by the FBI in Washington, D.C. The FBI said people who have disclosed personal information to such callers should monitor their credit card statements and credit reports and contact their local FBI office. The phone numbers of FBI field offices may be found in the front of local telephone directories or on the Internet at http://www.fbi.gov/contact/fo/fo.htm. The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts issued a warning about the scam in August 2005.
