August 10, 2009 - North American Leaders’ Declaration on H1N1
Building on strong trilateral cooperation this past spring, and, in anticipation of a possible fall wave of flu due to the 2009 H1N1 virus, President Obama, Mexican President Felipe Calderón, and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a joint statement on H1N1 influenza at the North American Leaders Summit, held August 9-10 in Guadalajara, Mexico. The three leaders stated that strong trilateral collaboration has led to a more secure North America region, and agreed to continue to work together in the months ahead to address the pandemic and promote the health of the people of the three nations. July 13, 2009 - PAHO Appreciation to the HHS Donation of Tamiflu
The Pan American Health Organization has expressed its appreciation to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the donation of 420,000 treatments of Tamiflu for the treatment of Influenza A (H1N1) in the Latin American region, stating that the recent donation is having an impact in Chile and Argentina as well as in other countries to which distribution will be made in the region in a letter dated July 13, 2009 to the acting Director of the Office of Global Health Affairs, Jim Kulikowski, from the PAHO Director, Dr. Mirta Roses Periago. July 6, 2009 - New Interagency MOU on Cooperation in Public Health and Medical Sciences
Ambassador John Beyrle, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development Veronika Skvortsova of the Russian Federation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the Field of Public Health and Medical Sciences. This MOU strengthens the bilateral framework for deeper cooperation between health authorities, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, scientific institutions, and other organizations.
