National Archives Interns Share Their Stories....
Electronic Records Archives (ERA) Program
Last summer I was hired as a student employee under
the Electronic Records Archives (ERA) program. Prior to starting my first day I knew
very little about the function of the National Archives and its national
importance. I assumed I
knew even less about electronic
records and prepared
myself for a dull summer
filled with information that I
would never use.
I soon
learned that with the use of
floppy disks, jump drives,
and compact disks, I had a
collection of electronic
records of my own.
Though I
was aware of how this collection
had grown over my
academic career, I was amazed to see the volume,
complexity, and variety of electronic records on a
national scale.
I now see the significance of a persistent,
scalable system for the maintenance and authenticity
of these records and I am excited to see what
the future holds in my generation for the Electronic
Records Archives! Learn More About ERA!
