Programs Providing for Employment or Conversion to
Permanent Employment.
Presidential Management Internship Program (PMI) - A 2-year program sponsored
by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). It is designed to attract
outstanding candidates who are ready to enter the workforce, upon receiving
their graduate degrees. Students participate in a rigorous, competitive
nomination process. The PMI program places strong emphasis on career
development in Federal administration and management.
Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) - Provides student with the
opportunity to earn an income and gain experience while they are in college.
Student may be non-competitively converted to permanent employment upon
graduation provided certain criteria are met.

Temporary Internship/Partnership Programs
Diversity Partnership Programs - The Department of the Interior recruits
college students for semester long and summer internships at bureaus in the
Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and at field sites across the country under
its Diversity Intern Program. This program provides an opportunity for
ethnically diverse college students to experience the wide variety of careers in
the Federal sector.
Interns will attend orientation meetings in the Washington, D.C., metro area
before traveling to host sites. The sponsoring organizations participating
in the program will provide assistance to interns in locating housing near host
sites. Travel from the intern’s home to orientation, to the hosting site,
and return home at the end of the term will be paid by the sponsoring
organization.
Compensation, eligibility requirements, and instructions for applying for an
internship will be furnished by one of the sponsoring organizations below:

Temporary Student Programs
Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) - This program provides students
with the opportunity to earn an income and gain experience during their school
years. While serving under this program, students must remain enrolled in
school.
Federal Recruitment Program for Students with Disabilities - Co-chaired by
the President’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, and the
Department of Defense. This government-wide program seeks to place
students with disabilities in Federal work sites throughout the nation.
Although the primary focus is to hire students for summer positions, permanent
opportunities may be available.
