Making Healthcare More Affordable

As a long-time surgeon, I understand the problems facing our healthcare system, and I am working to provide responsible solutions for Louisiana families. Allowing Americans to control their own healthcare destiny is necessary to ease the anxiety that millions currently suffer rising costs due to a lack of insurance portability, information, and access.

"Health care reform remains critical to getting our economy back on the right track," Boustany said. "The President and House Democratic leadership continue to promote a flawed health overhaul bill that will cost patients and taxpayers more, without improving access for Americans to a doctor. We must make sure the way we go about lowering the costs and increasing access doesn't make the problem worse. As a doctor for more than 14 years, I saw firsthand the problems we face, and I know we can fix them. However, we need to work together to accomplish those results."

"This 1,000-plus page bill became public less than 24 hours ago, and the American people deserve a thorough review," Boustany said. "As a doctor, I saw firsthand the problems we have in health care, and I believe we can lower the cost of health care to make it more affordable for millions of Americans. This bill fails to do that. Democratic leadership in Washington wrote this bill quickly, without concern for the long-term costs for patients, doctors or taxpayers."
